From Zero to Surf Addict: How One Week in Tamghart Changed My Life
A personal story of learning to surf, discovering Berber culture, and falling in love with Morocco
When I booked my surf trip to Morocco, I had never touched a surfboard. I didn’t know how to paddle. I didn’t even know how to read a wave. I just wanted something new — something that would take me out of my routine and into the ocean.
One week later, I was standing on my board, riding small green waves with a huge smile on my face. And I knew: this trip had changed me.
⸻
Day 1: Arrival in Tamghart
The first thing that hit me wasn’t the waves — it was the vibe. Tamghart is a quiet village near Taghazout, full of laid-back energy, ocean views, and warm, welcoming people.
At Adrenalin Surf Maroc, I was welcomed like family. The surf house is a cozy, traditional Berber home with colorful tiles, rooftop views, and the smell of mint tea in the air.
I felt instantly at peace.
⸻
Day 2: First surf lesson ever
I was nervous. The ocean looked endless. But my instructor, friendly and patient, broke everything down step by step.
On the beach, we practiced the pop-up. In the water, I wiped out five times… then suddenly, I stood up for the first time.
That feeling? Pure freedom.
⸻
Day 3–5: Progress, laughter, and a beach lunch I’ll never forget
Each day brought more confidence. I paddled stronger, understood the rhythm of the waves, and even started turning on the board.
But it wasn’t just about surfing. One afternoon, we had lunch on the beach under a parasol — grilled fish, couscous, fresh fruit — right by the waves. We shared stories, laughed, and watched the sunset.
It wasn’t just a surf trip. It was a connection to the ocean and the people around me.
⸻
Day 6: Rest, explore, breathe
I took a break from surfing and joined a yoga session on the rooftop. Later, I explored the local market, spoke with artisans, and learned about Berber traditions — from cooking to carpets.
Tamghart isn’t a tourist trap. It’s authentic, calm, and full of soul.
⸻
Day 7: My last wave (but not the end)
On the final day, I caught my longest wave yet — clean, smooth, and unforgettable. I didn’t want to leave.
I came here as a beginner. I left as someone hooked on surfing, in love with Morocco, and full of energy I hadn’t felt in years.
